June 2 - 6, 2008 Plein Air
and Nov. 10 - 14, 2008 Studio
(Full with wait lists)

Though Jim’s classes have always been about painting on location, he has decided to broaden his class spectrum and offer a studio painting workshop for those who don’t feel they can paint outside often. In either class, you will enjoy painting some of the most spectacular views in the world here in Jackson Hole, where Jim has lived and painted since 1969. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience in painting landscapes, and he especially loves sharing his beloved Tetons.

Jim continues to garner awards. In 2007 alone, Jim won the Remington Award from the Prix de West Show for the second time, an Award of Artistic Merit for the second year straight from the Western Rendezvous of Art, and the Southwest Art Award from the Masters of the American West Show. Also among his large list of accomplishments are the coveted Prix de West award from the Prix de West Show and the $50,000 grand prize from the Arts for the Parks competition. Many magazines and other publications have chosen Jim’s work for cover stories and other articles, including an upcoming article in the spring issue of Workshop Magazine which convinced Jim to teach another year of workshops.

If you have not already signed up for Jim’s class, it may be too late. The class fills up a year in advance. However, it is worth a try getting on the waiting list. You never know what could happen. Sadly, this may be Jim’s last year teaching workshops, but we haven’t given up quite yet.

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Different focuses will be the center of each class. For the June class, Jim will be teaching his tried-and-true plein air methods. The class will go out on location in Grand Teton National Park and paint from beautiful locations like String Lake and Schwabacher Landing.

For the studio workshop in November, students will focus on painting from photographs - how to avoid the perils and pitfalls associated with color in photos. Students will learn the do's and don'ts of studio painting.

TUITION: $675 (Wait list only)
