From Sketch to Finish
“Plein-Air Watercolor in the Tetons”
Our experienced instructor, Joe Bohler, brings with him an exciting class format this year. He is taking successful concepts from previous years and combining them into something even better. In the past, Joe has taught workshops concentrated on quick plein-air color sketches, a way to quickly gather accurate artist reference. He got great feedback, but decided he would also like to teach more finishing techniques.
So this year, Joe will return to Grand Teton National Park with his students to teach both sketch paintings and finished paintings. In the sketch portions of the workshop, students will hone one of a plein-air painter’s greatest assets: the ability to do color sketches and paint quickly with more accuracy. But students will also learn to fine-tune their finished paintings during other portions of the workshop.
As always, we are excited to have Joe come with his world of experience and expertise in watercolor painting. This unique class with Joe Bohler will be a great experience. Students will learn a lot from his demonstrations alone, and tapping his knowledge should help any painter progress.
A full-time artist for more than 40 years, Joe has great mastery of his craft and teaches it well. He has a long, impressive list of awards and honors, including awards from the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society, and the National Academy of Western Art. He exhibits in many of the top shows in the country, and numerous books and magazines have featured his work.
CLASS DESCRIPTION: Joe has decided to include both sketch painting and finished painting in his plein-air workshop. Students will visit favorite locations around Grand Teton National Park to work on watercolors. The drive of each day may vary, as Joe will sometimes focus in on the ability to do color sketches and paint quickly to preserve moments for later reference, whether in the studio or otherwise. At other points, Joe will help students paint a finished piece from start to final touches.
TUITION: $475
