Though Jim’s classes have always been about painting on location, in 2008 he decided to broaden his class spectrum and offer a studio painting workshop for those who don’t feel they can paint outside often. In either class, you will enjoy painting some of the most spectacular views in the world here in Jackson Hole, where Jim has lived and painted since 1969. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience in painting landscapes, and he especially loves sharing his beloved mountains - the Tetons.
Jim continues to garner awards. Among his large list of accomplishments are the coveted Prix de West Award and the Remington Award (twice) from the Prix de West Show and the $50,000 grand prize from the Arts for the Parks competition. Many magazines and other publications have chosen Jim’s work for cover stories and other articles, including a 2008 article in the spring issue of Workshop Magazine which convinced Jim to keep teaching workshops.
Jim only recently committed to teaching again in 2011. This is always a relief to us all as he is a great instructor with 43 years of experience as a professional artist and teacher. Enroll in a Wilcox workshop while you still can.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS: In both classes, Jim will do several demo paintings throughout the week. During the plein-air workshop, students will paint on location in Grand Teton National Park with as much individual instruction as possible. The studio workshop will stay in Jim’s spacious studio and paint from photos, exploring the ups and downs of indoor painting.
TUITION: $675
DVDs and Books: Two Jim Wilcox instructional DVDs are available as a workshop alternative, click here for details. Jim also released a coffee table book, “Canvassing the West,” in 2008. All are available at special workshop pricing.

In Spring 2008, Jim Wilcox's plein-air workshop in gorgeous Grand Teton National Park was featured as the cover story for American Artist's Workshop Magazine. The article was so popular, they ran a variation of the article again in the Spring 2011 issue.
