Dave Merrill was born in the small town of Payson, Utah. His childhood years were spent in the nearby town of Spanish Fork where he played in fields and watched farmers drive their tractors. He spent many days with his grandpa weeding in the garden, picking (and eating) raspberries, feeding pigs, and milking their cow, Betsy. Whenever he visited his grandparents, he remembers waking up to the cock-a-doodle-doo of the neighborhood roosters. Back then, it seemed like there were more roosters than cats or dogs. |

Dave also loved to draw. He drew animals. In high school Dave received many awards for his artwork. He earned scholarships to college and decided to attend BYU where he majored in art. He graduated with a BFA and continued painting.
Dave now paints every day (except Sundays). His most famous client, Ringo Starr (of the Beatles) owns one of his finest rooster paintings.
